Linescratching Post for the week of May 16, 2011

Vol. 1 No. 12, Week of May 16, 2011

This week: The Neon Trees meet David Letterman, We sneak some Mormons into the National Jukebox, Fictionist nearly punches Paramore’s producer in the face, Colby Miller gears up with a new band, a new show, and a new album, and more!

Top ten reasons you should not have tasted the salt on my hands. The Neon Trees visited David Letterman this week to play their third single “Your Surrender.” Reason number ten: That wasn’t table salt.

Virgin Miami Vice–that really kind of says it all right there, doesn’t it? Apparently some rock band from Provo Utah is involved in a contest of some sort. Fictioner? Frictioner? I think it’s Frictioner. Results come in this Wednesday, the 18th. Also, what would you do if someone “really helped” you? If you said “threaten to punch him in the face” then you might be singer Stuart Maxfield. Note to self: Do not help Frictioner.

Mess with the bull? Get the horns. Colby Miller is finally playing a show, in Redlands. He also announced/changed the name of his new album. It’s called “The Bull.” And he posted to the lyrics to his excellent debut album, Prometheus, over at bandcamp where you can still download it for any price you choose. He’s been playing with a full band lately, so get yourself ready for that.

At first I read that they found some Mormons in the National Juice-box and I thought: That’s not right. This week, The Library of Congress and Sony launched The National Jukebox: “The largest collection of historical records ever made publicly available online.” We got some Mormon songs up in there, and they’re not all sung by Mormons! Also, it involves a guy named Evan Stephens which is a pretty great name. Good job Brother and Sister Stephens.

Very brief: Gladys Knight gets sick, irking fans. Kyle Turley plays a show and hosts a helmet throwing contest. Get a free download of the newish JaneDear Girls song “Shotgun Girl” by tweeting about it. Or, if you don’t like tweeting, check out David Charles’ new download, free with no obligation.

E-mail me tips and news items of note.

  1. Elisabeth says:

Pst. Just FYI, Stu was the one with the punch-in-the-face quote, not Brandon. Otherwise, good article! I always enjoy reading these.
